Sunday afternoon- We went ring shopping and talked about a time frame for getting engaged. We planned a trip to see my dad in March, and Marshall would ask for my dad's permission to marry me.
Monday evening- Usually, Marshall would stop over at my place after he got off work, but he was busy that evening. He didn't tell me what he was doing, and I didn't ask.
I called my dad to let him know what Marshall and I had talked about the day before. I didn't want him to be caught off guard when Marshall came to talk to him.
Marshall stopped by really late that night just to say "hi." I asked how his evening had been, and he said it was really amazing. I asked what made it so amazing, and he couldn't really come up with an answer.
The rest of the week was pretty normal. Marshall really wanted to take me to meet his grandparents, so we took a trip out that weekend to see them.
On Saturday, Marshall gave me a tour of the town. It was such a pretty little town, and everything looked beautiful under a blanket of fresh snow. He took me up to the lookout at the state park, and we were enjoying the incredible view.
And then, Marshall said, "Emily, there's something I need to tell you. I lied about where I was at on Monday night."
My first thought was, "Oh no! He's going to break up with me while we're visiting his grandparents. How mortifying!"
And then before I knew it, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him.
What did I say?
"Are you kidding me?! Is this for real?!"
Yep. Since we had talked about all of this not happening for at least a month, I didn't see it coming at all.
In the end, I said "Yes!" And if he asked me all over again, that would still be my reply.
We shared our first kiss that day, too, so it's doubly special!
By the way, if you're still wondering where Marshall was on Monday night, he had gone to see my dad to ask for permission to marry me. They were in the middle of talking when I called to warn my dad that Marshall would be asking soon!
My cousin is so darn CUTE! Love this story! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your dad got a big kick out of your phone call. It must hard for him to not give away his "visitor"
