Cardigan {redo}: Turning Long Sleeves into 3/4 Sleeves

It's that wonderful time of year when the mornings are cool and crisp but the afternoons are still fairly warm.  Evenings could be either cool or warm... you just never know.  Cardigans can be a wonderful item for bridging that gap between warm weather and sweater weather.  The only problem with cardigans is that the sleeves are usually too short.  Is it just me, or does that happen to everyone?  I'd scrunch the sleeves up to my elbows, but by the end of the day (or morning!), they'd be stretched out too far to stay up.

I saw this tutorial on how to hem up jeans while keeping the original hem and had a light bulb moment.  Why not try this with a cardigan?  And it worked perfectly!

I started out with a regular, long sleeved cardigan from Old Navy.

Determine the length you want the sleeves to be and pull the sleeves back up and over the arm.  The excess on mine was right at 3 1/2 inches when doubled over.

Stitch right along the cuff line.

Cut off the excess and pull the cuff right side out.

See how the original cuff is still in tact?  You can't even tell that the sleeves were altered.

Let me know if you are confused or have any questions.  You can also check out the tutorial on Sew Much Ado's blog for hemming jeans.  She does a wonderful job of explaining it, and you can easily transfer the idea over to cardigans, sweaters, or any long sleeved shirt.
